Clinical research are studies that are designed to test a medical, behaviour or surgical interventions. As a result of the studies, data is collected and innovations in health, training and care are developed for our future generations.
There are 4 phases of clinical trials:
Phase I: First time the intervention is given to participants and used to find a safe dose. The intervention is routinely tested in lab and in animal studies and is required to be performed so that we can decide the best dose, form and way to administer the treatment.
Phase II: First time intervention is given to target population with the aim to see if there is a benefit or response
Phase III: Performed as a comparison to determine if the new intervention is better than current standard intervention
Phase IV: Testing an already marketed medication or intervention to build a better understanding of its use or compile a more extensive safety profile.
